Saint Johns River State College

Saint Johns River State College (SJRSC) stands as a beacon of public education, serving over 10,500 students across Putnam, St. Johns, and Clay counties. Since its designation as a state college in 2011, SJRSC has expanded its offerings to include valuable bachelor's degrees, building on a foundation of associate degrees in arts and sciences. It is known for its deep community roots, commitment to student success, and providing accessible, high-quality educational opportunities.

The college boasts a rich and transformative history, dating back to its founding in 1958. Initially established as a segregated institution, St. Johns River Junior College merged with the historically Black Collier-Blocker Junior College in 1964, a pivotal moment in its evolution. Over the years, SJRSC demonstrated significant growth and dedication to its community, expanding its footprint with the development of campuses in Orange Park in 1977 and St. Augustine in 1986, further extending its reach and impact.

A standout academic strength of SJRSC is the acclaimed Florida School of the Arts (FloArts). Opened in 1976 and located on the Palatka Campus, FloArts offers an intimate and focused environment where students receive close, individualized attention. It provides accredited Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degrees across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including Visual Art (Animation, Studio Art, Graphic Design/New Media, Photography), Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre, and specialized Theatre Production/Design programs (Costume Design, Scenic/Lighting Design, Stage Management).

Beyond academics, the college fosters a vibrant student experience, enhanced by facilities like the Thrasher-Horne Center for Performing Arts, which opened on the Orange Park campus in 2004. SJRSC also deeply values its heritage, honoring the legacy of Collier-Blocker College through a dedicated memorial wall and a state scholarship, reflecting its commitment to learning from and acknowledging its past.
