About Santiago Canyon College
Santiago Canyon College: A dynamic community college where student success truly matters.
Santiago Canyon College (SCC) stands as a vibrant public community college, dedicated to the principle that "What Happens Here Matters." Established with a mission to serve its diverse student body, SCC currently welcomes 15,228 students, offering an accessible and engaging educational journey. Under the leadership of President Jeannie G. Kim, the college fosters an environment where every student's contribution and achievement are valued.
The institution's roots trace back to 1980, when The Irvine Company sold 30 acres to the Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD). By 1985, the campus opened its doors as the Orange Campus, quickly enrolling approximately 2,500 students in its first semester. A pivotal moment arrived in July 1997 when the school separated from Santa Ana College, rebranding itself as Santiago Canyon College. Its commitment to educational excellence was further solidified in January 2000, when it achieved independent accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.
SCC has consistently demonstrated a forward-looking approach to campus development and student support. In January 2000, The Irvine Company generously donated an additional 12 acres, significantly expanding the college’s footprint. Further growth occurred in April 2003, with RSCCD acquiring nearly 19 more acres through Measure E funds. This expansion paved the way for modern facilities, including the completion of the Student Services and Instruction building in 2004, the Library in 2006, and the Science Center in 2010. By 2013, the campus boasted a new Athletics and Aquatics Complex and a Humanities building, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching experience for all students.
