Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) stands as a dynamic hub for aspiring artists and designers, distinguished by its innovative curriculum and extensive global presence. Founded in 1978, SCAD quickly blossomed from offering eight initial majors like graphic design and historic preservation to becoming a powerhouse of creative education, enrolling over 11,000 students by 2014 across its diverse programs. SCAD's history is marked by rapid expansion and adaptability. After its initial success, the institution opened a study abroad location in Lacoste, France, in 2002, followed by a major campus in Midtown Atlanta in 2005, which merged with the Atlanta College of Art. While a Hong Kong location was established in 2010, it was later discontinued due to safety concerns and global events. Despite early challenges, including periods of student unrest and leadership changes, SCAD has consistently evolved, notably enhancing student support services with the Bee Well initiative for mental health and establishing an office of inclusion to promote diversity and equity.
