Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) stands as a vibrant hub for creative minds, renowned for its diverse programs and hands-on approach to art and design education. Attracting students from around the globe, SCAD fosters a dynamic learning environment where imagination takes shape, transforming artistic passion into professional prowess.

SCAD's journey began in 1978, founded by Richard G. Rowan, Paula S. Wallace, and the Poetter family. Starting with just 71 students and eight majors, the university experienced rapid growth, enrolling over 11,000 students by 2014. This expansion included establishing a study abroad location in Lacoste, France (2002), a major campus in Atlanta (2005, following a merger with the Atlanta College of Art), and a former presence in Hong Kong (2010). The university has navigated historical challenges, including periods of unrest and student concerns, responding with initiatives aimed at improving campus life and support systems.

Academically, SCAD offers a comprehensive array of programs housed within nine distinct schools, ranging from Building Arts to Digital Media and Entertainment Arts. Its commitment to accessibility and innovation is evident in its online learning program, which U.S. News & World Report recognizes among the nation's best for bachelor's degrees. Beyond academics, SCAD enriches the student experience through celebrated annual events like the Sidewalk Arts Festival and the Savannah Film Festival. The university has also prioritized student well-being, launching its "Bee Well" mental health initiative in 2019, which provides comprehensive counseling and support.

Under the leadership of President Paula S. Wallace, who took the helm in 2000, SCAD continues to evolve, directing internal management and driving collaborations for its many renowned events, including the establishment of the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta in 2015. Demonstrating a commitment to social justice, SCAD created an office of inclusion and introduced 15 endowed scholarships for Black students in 2020, actively addressing systemic racism and fostering a more equitable creative community.
