Seattle Central College

The college's deep roots trace back to 1902 with the opening of Broadway High School. This historical foundation showcases a legacy of adaptability and community service, as the institution transformed from a traditional high school into a vital vocational and adult education center—the Edison Technical School—specifically benefiting returning veterans after World War II. Seattle Central College has continuously evolved to meet the demands of its growing community. In 1966, Edison Technical School was reconstituted as Seattle Community College, beginning to offer essential college-level courses. Following the opening of North and South Seattle Community Colleges in 1970, it was renamed Seattle Central Community College. Its most recent transformation in 2014 saw the district become Seattle Colleges and the institution officially renamed Seattle Central College, a change reflecting its current standing as a comprehensive college now offering bachelor's degrees and shaping the future of thousands.
