The college's fascinating journey began over a century ago with the opening of Broadway High School in 1902. This institution dramatically shifted its focus after World War II, converting into a vocational and adult education center to serve returning veterans and the evolving community needs. Renamed Edison Technical School, it laid the groundwork for a future in higher education by adapting its curriculum to meet the demands of a changing world, demonstrating an early spirit of innovation and community service.

Edison Technical School's evolution culminated in its reconstitution as Seattle Community College in 1966, marking its formal entry into providing college-level courses.
