About Snow College

Snow College: Historic junior college, pioneering bachelor's, and student-focused community.

Snow College, established in 1888, stands as a beacon of accessible education and historical significance as one of the oldest junior colleges west of the Mississippi. This public community college, with its vibrant campuses in Ephraim and Richfield, offers a unique blend of tradition and forward-thinking academic programs. Rooted in strong community values, Snow College prides itself on providing a supportive environment for its 5,506 students to thrive, offering a personalized educational journey.

The college's rich history began with humble and heartfelt origins. Founded as Sanpete Stake Academy, its initial construction was a testament to local dedication, built entirely through community donations, famously including "Sunday Eggs" – the proceeds from eggs laid on Sundays. Over the years, the institution evolved, taking on names like Snow Academy, Snow Normal College, and Snow Junior College, before officially becoming Snow College in 1923, honoring LDS Church leaders Lorenzo Snow and Erastus Snow. Its transfer to the state of Utah in 1931 marked a new era of public service and expanded its reach to a broader student body.

While celebrated for its robust associate degree programs, Snow College has expanded its academic horizons to meet contemporary demands. Demonstrating a commitment to innovation, the Utah State Board of Regents granted permission in 2016 for the college to offer a distinctive bachelor's degree in Software Engineering. This was further enhanced in the 2018-2019 academic year with the introduction of a bachelor's degree in Commercial Music, providing students with cutting-edge opportunities in high-demand fields and preparing them for successful careers.
