South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) stands as a vital public institution, dedicated to fostering educational and economic growth across Anson and Union Counties in North Carolina. Established as a new entity in 1999, SPCC carries a rich legacy, evolving from predecessor institutions that have served the region since 1962. SPCC's unique formation in 1999 involved the consolidation of Anson Community College and the Union Technical Education Center. This merger represented a significant step in streamlining and enhancing technical and continuing education services for residents. Prior to its current iteration, the college's roots grew from the Ansonville unit of the Charlotte Industrial Education Center, evolving through various names such as Anson Technical Institute and Anson Technical College, each stage building upon the mission to deliver essential learning opportunities.

Throughout its history, SPCC and its predecessors have consistently adapted to serve an increasing number of students, demonstrating a strong responsiveness to community needs. Significant milestones include the construction of key facilities like a 28,000-square-foot building in Polkton and the Martin Learning Resources Center, both designed to support comprehensive educational programs.
