South University-Savannah boasts a rich history spanning over a century, evolving from its roots as a practical business college in 1899 into a modern university deeply committed to career-oriented education. Initially founded as Draughan's Practical Business College, the institution underwent several significant transformations, including periods as Draughan's Junior College and later South College. A pivotal moment arrived in 2001 when it was officially renamed South University, following its achievement of master's level accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Among its many academic strengths, the School of Pharmacy shines brightly, having launched Savannah's first health professions doctorate – an accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program – in 2002. This program is uniquely structured to condense four academic years into three calendar years, appealing to highly motivated students and maintaining accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
