Southeast Arkansas College

Southeast Arkansas College (SEARK) stands as a vital public community college, dedicated to its inspiring motto: "Changing lives...one student at a time." With a vibrant student body of 1,842, SEARK offers an accessible and supportive environment designed to empower individuals, foster personal growth, and prepare them for meaningful careers and further education.

SEARK's rich history begins with its groundbreaking origins as the Arkansas Vocational-Technical School, which started offering postsecondary programs in 1959. It was established under Act 328 of 1957, making it the very first vocational-technical school in Arkansas aimed at supporting industry needs and improving citizens' quality of life. This foundational role marked a significant step in the state's educational landscape, providing essential skills and opportunities to generations of Arkansans.

The institution underwent several transformative changes, evolving from Pines Vocational-Technical School to Pines Technical College in 1991 under Act 1244. This act redefined its mission and transferred its authority to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Later, it became Southeast Arkansas Technical College in 1996 to better reflect its service area, finally adopting its current name, Southeast Arkansas College, in 1998. This evolution underscores its continuous commitment to adapting and serving the educational needs of the region.

Today, SEARK continues its legacy of providing high-quality education focused on student success. Under the leadership of President Steven Bloomberg, appointed in 2017, the college remains a cornerstone of the community, offering a comprehensive educational experience that truly impacts individual futures and strengthens the workforce of Southeast Arkansas.
