Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

Founded in 1950 with the powerful motto, "Go Make Disciples," Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary stands as a private institution dedicated to training men and women for Christian ministry and global missions. The seminary's journey began in 1951, offering its first classes on the Wake Forest College campus. Binkley, the seminary significantly advanced its academic offerings, transitioning the Bachelor of Divinity to the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree and introducing vital programs like the Master of Religious Education (MRE) and the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.).

Later presidencies saw periods of significant growth and evolving theological direction. W. Randall Lolley's tenure witnessed enrollment more than doubling, a testament to the seminary's growing appeal. More recently, under L. Paige Patterson and current president Daniel L. Akin, Southeastern has reaffirmed its conservative theological foundations, upgrading existing degree programs and expanding doctoral opportunities. State-of-the-art facilities like Patterson Hall house key initiatives such as The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture and The Center for Preaching and Pastoral Leadership, underscoring its commitment to rigorous academic and practical preparation.

Beyond the main campus, Southeastern extends its reach, notably establishing a unique campus within the Nash Correctional Institution prison in 2017, demonstrating its dedication to ministry in diverse settings. The seminary's commitment to its mission is further symbolized by "For the Cause" by Keith and Kristyn Getty, dedicated as its official hymn, inspiring students to live out their calling.
