Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Southeastern Oklahoma State University, established in 1909, has a rich history of fostering education and progress in the heart of Oklahoma. Originally founded as a normal school in Durant to train teachers for a vital 12-county region, it quickly became a cornerstone for educational development in the area. From its roots as "Southeastern State Normal School," the institution steadily evolved, expanding its curriculum beyond teacher education. By 1939, it introduced Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, transforming into "Southeastern State College."
