Southeastern Technical College

Southeastern Technical College stands as a pillar of public community education in Georgia, committed to providing practical skills and preparing its students for successful careers. While the current legal entity was established in 2009, its rich history of vocational and technical training dates back to 1963, demonstrating a long-standing dedication to regional workforce development. With a vibrant student body of 1,903, the college continues its legacy of empowering individuals through hands-on learning and specialized programs.

The college's journey is marked by a significant and pioneering merger. Its roots trace to the Swainsboro Area Vocational and Technical School, which, upon its establishment in 1963, served an expansive 20-county region—the largest for any vocational school in Georgia. In 1988, as the Technical College System of Georgia (then Department of Technical and Adult Education) took shape, Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia was also established, welcoming its first class in 1990.

A pivotal moment arrived in 2008 when the Technical College System of Georgia initiated a statewide strategy for college mergers. Southeastern Technical College and Swainsboro Technical College were among the first tasked with this integration. After careful planning and unanimous votes from both boards in January 2009, the decision was made to merge and retain the esteemed name 'Southeastern Technical College,' creating a unified institution that officially opened its doors on July 1, 2009. This merger not only solidified a regional identity but also enhanced the educational opportunities available to its diverse student population, ensuring a robust and relevant learning experience for all.
