Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) stands as a pivotal historically black institution within the distinguished Southern University System, dedicated to serving the educational needs of the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area. SUSLA's journey began with its opening for instruction on September 19, 1967, a realization brought forth by the administration of Governor John J. McKeithen. Academically, SUSLA is robust, offering a wide array of associate degree programs approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents. These include fields such as business, humanities, medical office assistant, natural sciences, office administration, social sciences, and medical laboratory technology.
