Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) stands as a pivotal Historically Black College and University (HBCU), dedicated to empowering students within the vibrant Shreveport-Bossier City metro area. Its journey began on September 19, 1967, opening its doors as a crucial part of the esteemed Southern University System. This establishment marked a significant milestone for local education, steadily growing to meet increasing demands. A key moment arrived on October 28, 1974, when the Louisiana Board of Regents formally approved six vital associate degree programs, laying the groundwork for its academic future.

Today, SUSLA is proudly accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, offering a diverse array of associate degrees designed to equip students for immediate career success or further academic pursuits. From Business and Humanities to Medical Office Assistant, Natural Sciences, Office Administration, Social Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Technology, its programs are both relevant and robust.
