Southwestern Christian University

Southwestern Christian University (SCU) stands as a dynamic Christian liberal arts institution, boasting a rich and adaptive history rooted in Oklahoma. It offers a unique educational journey, evolving from a growing junior college to a focused ministry training institution, and now a comprehensive university dedicated to holistic education within a faith-based environment. Established in 1946, SCU rapidly developed its programs, achieving accreditation as a junior college by 1964 and growing into one of the largest within its denomination. This period saw significant expansion with the construction of various key buildings and a name shift to Oklahoma City Southwestern College (OCSC). However, a pivotal re-focus in 1981 led to its transformation into a Ministry training college, its relocation to Bethany, Oklahoma, and its renaming to Southwestern College of Christian Ministries (SCCM), adapting its identity to meet evolving needs.

The modern era of SCU began with a strategic five-year plan implemented in 1998, which included the development of a Master of Ministry graduate program and a broader academic vision. This transformative period culminated in 2001 when the school was officially renamed Southwestern Christian University. This name change signified its comprehensive growth beyond a specialized Bible college to a full Christian liberal arts university. Today, SCU continues to be an integral part of Oklahoma City's educational landscape, equipping students for diverse callings through a robust academic environment that prioritizes both intellectual and spiritual growth.
