Southwestern Christian University (SCU) stands as a vibrant private Christian liberal arts institution, uniquely shaped by a legacy of adaptation and growth. Established in 1946, SCU's early history saw it evolve into a significant junior college by the 1960s, achieving accreditation in 1964 and becoming one of the largest within the Pentecostal Holiness Church. This period of expansion brought new facilities and a broader curriculum, leading to its renaming as Oklahoma City Southwestern College (OCSC). However, a pivotal shift in 1981 saw the institution re-focus its mission as a Ministry training college, relocating to Bethany, Oklahoma, and adopting the name Southwestern College of Christian Ministries (SCCM). This strategic repositioning underscored its dedication to theological education.

The turn of the millennium marked another transformative era for SCU. In response to changing educational demands, a five-year program initiated in 1998 expanded its offerings to include a Master of Ministry graduate program. This culmination of growth and academic diversification led to its recognition as Southwestern Christian University in 2001. Today, under President Tom Murray, SCU proudly serves as a full Christian liberal arts university, extending beyond its Bible college roots to provide a comprehensive and enriching educational experience that remains an integral part of Oklahoma City's educational landscape.
