The college's journey began with the establishment of the Junior College District of Sedalia in 1966, an initiative that faced a landmark legal battle regarding the legitimacy of community college districts in Missouri. With the Missouri Supreme Court's resolution in 1967, SFCC triumphantly opened its doors on September 16, 1968, commencing operations from a single, innovative 35,000-square-foot facility.
