About Stockton University

From Pine Barrens to Atlantic City, Stockton offers a unique New Jersey learning adventure.

Nestled in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, Stockton University offers a distinctive academic experience as a public institution founded in 1969. What began as a bold vision for a new state college in Southern New Jersey has blossomed into a thriving university, known for its commitment to student success and its beautiful, expansive campus.

Stockton's journey is marked by an intriguing start, with its very first classes in 1971 held in the historic Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City while its permanent campus was under construction. Over the decades, it evolved, first as the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 1993, and then achieving prestigious university status in 2015, becoming Stockton University. This evolution reflects a persistent drive for growth and academic excellence.

Today, Stockton University truly offers the best of both worlds, with its main campus providing a serene, natural environment, complemented by a vibrant, modern presence in Atlantic City. In 2018, Stockton opened a state-of-the-art $220-million campus in Atlantic City, featuring academic centers and apartment-style student living in Kesselman Hall, providing students with unparalleled opportunities for learning and engagement in a dynamic coastal city.
