Suffolk County Community College

Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) stands as a cornerstone of accessible higher education on Long Island, proudly serving as a public community college within the prestigious State University of New York (SUNY) system. The college's rich history began in 1959, largely through the determined efforts of its first president, Albert Ammerman. SCCC started modestly, holding classes in local high schools before a significant milestone in 1962 with the opening of its permanent Ammerman campus in Selden, housed in a building with a notable past. This foundational period set the stage for decades of growth and commitment to student achievement.

SCCC continued to expand its reach and impact, establishing additional campuses in Riverhead and Brentwood by 1977 to better serve the diverse needs of Suffolk County residents. As a community college, SCCC is known for providing foundational education, preparing students for successful transfer to four-year institutions, or equipping them with essential skills for direct entry into the workforce.
