SUNY at Fredonia

Welcome to SUNY at Fredonia, a distinguished public university in western New York, proudly upholding its motto, "Where Success is a Tradition." Founded in 1826, it holds the impressive distinction of being the seventh-oldest college in New York and the second-oldest public institution. With a vibrant campus spanning 256 acres in a charming small town, Fredonia offers a close-knit community experience, home to 3,174 students, spirited Blue Devils athletics, and a rich legacy.

Fredonia's journey began as the Fredonia Academy, opening its doors on October 4, 1826, with just eight students. Though it faced early financial challenges, leading to a brief closure in 1867, it soon re-emerged as the Fredonia Normal School. Over its nearly two-century history, it evolved through several names, including Fredonia State Teachers College and SUNY College at Fredonia, consistently adapting to meet the educational needs of New York and beyond.

Academically, SUNY Fredonia is renowned for its strong foundation, particularly its historical excellence in music education. Today, it offers a comprehensive range of over 80 majors and 50 minors across diverse fields such as science, communication, education, and the social sciences. The university is structured into two distinct colleges and two specialized schools, ensuring focused and high-quality instruction for every student aspiring to achieve their academic and professional goals.
