Susquehanna University

Susquehanna University, a vibrant private liberal arts college, has been dedicated to cultivating "Achievement, Leadership, and Service" since its founding in 1858. With a rich history deeply rooted in its original mission, Susquehanna today offers a comprehensive educational experience designed to prepare students for impactful lives and careers. The university's journey began with a vision from Benjamin Kurtz, who sought to educate men for ministry. In September 1858, the Missionary Institute of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and Susquehanna Female College were established. The institute's mission expanded quickly; by 1873, it embraced co-education as the sister college disbanded, paving the way for a more inclusive future. This evolution culminated in 1895 when it officially adopted the name Susquehanna University, signifying its broader academic scope and commitment.

The 20th century marked a period of tremendous growth and modernization for Susquehanna. The institution began offering bachelor's degrees, and by the 1920s, it saw a significant surge in student enrollment. This expansion was met with enhancements across campus, including refurbished accommodations, an enlarged physical footprint, and a strengthened array of academic departments and offerings.
