Sussex County Community College

Sussex County Community College, established in 1981, empowers students to "Start here, go anywhere!" The college campus itself is steeped in history, offering a unique backdrop for modern learning. The land was first settled before 1751 by Henry Hairlocker, whose tavern hosted the county's first government sessions. Later, the site became home to a grand mansion built by John A. Horton in 1858, showcasing Rural Gothic and Italianate architecture. This rich historical tapestry adds depth and character to the college's identity.

Before SCCC's founding, the campus transformed into a Roman Catholic seminary, first as St. Joseph's House of Studies and later as Don Bosco College. This institution, which educated future Salesian teachers and priests, expanded with significant buildings in 1931 and 1963. This legacy of education and community service permeates the very foundations of Sussex County Community College, connecting its contemporary mission to centuries of intellectual and social development in the region.
