Taft College

Taft College, a public community college founded on August 30, 1922, has a remarkable history deeply intertwined with the growth and needs of its community. Born out of a burgeoning population in the Taft area, the institution was initially established as Taft Junior College to provide higher education opportunities right at home. From its humble beginnings on the grounds of Taft Union High School, the college has always been about fostering local talent and responding to the evolving educational landscape.

After starting within the high school, the college moved into remodeled buildings acquired from defunct military fields, signifying its growing independence. By 1954, recognizing the need for a dedicated space for its expanding student body, the institution officially became Taft College and embarked on building its own modern campus, which opened its doors in 1956.
