Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) stands as a vibrant and evolving institution in South Texas, recognized for its strong international focus and commitment to student success. Initially founded in 1969 as an upper-level university serving juniors, seniors, and graduate students, TAMIU has undergone a remarkable transformation to become a comprehensive four-year university within the esteemed Texas A&M University System.

The university's history is marked by significant milestones, including its renaming to Laredo State University in 1977, followed by its pivotal integration into The Texas A&M University System in 1989. A major turning point arrived in 1995 when TAMIU not only adopted its current name but also welcomed its first freshman class, officially becoming a four-year institution. That same year, it opened a brand-new campus, a historic achievement as the first new university campus constructed in Texas in over 25 years, signifying a new era of growth and opportunity.

Today, TAMIU is known for its forward-thinking academic programs and dedication to nurturing talent. It pioneered a Doctoral program in International Business Administration in 2004 and continues to innovate with initiatives like the Early College High School (since 2006) and The Texas Academy of International and STEM Studies (launched 2014), designed for highly gifted high school seniors. With over 8,300 students, the university provides a supportive environment through resources such as the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center and the Autism Interventions Center, ensuring a rich and impactful educational journey for all.
