Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is a dynamic public university within the prestigious Texas A&M University System, offering a distinctive focus on international studies and a comprehensive academic experience. Welcoming over 8,300 students, TAMIU has evolved from its roots as an upper-level institution into a thriving four-year university, committed to fostering global perspectives and academic excellence, particularly in business and STEM fields.

The university's history is marked by significant growth and transformation. Established in 1969 as a branch of Texas A&I University, it initially served juniors, seniors, and graduate students. After a period as Laredo State University, it proudly joined The Texas A&M University System in 1989. A pivotal moment occurred in 1995 when it was renamed Texas A&M International University, became a four-year institution welcoming its first freshman class, and opened a brand-new campus—the first new university campus constructed in Texas in over two decades. This expansion underscored its commitment to providing comprehensive higher education.

Academically, TAMIU stands out with its pioneering Doctoral program in International Business Administration, launched in 2004, offering advanced studies for a globally connected world. Further demonstrating its innovative spirit, the university established The Texas Academy of International and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Studies in 2014, an on-campus academy for highly gifted high school seniors. TAMIU prioritizes student success, as evidenced by the dedicated Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center and the Autism Interventions Center, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for its diverse student body.
