The university's journey began in 1971 as the East Texas State University Center at Texarkana, initially providing crucial upper-level instruction to students in an isolated region. Sharing facilities with Texarkana College, it steadily grew, earning separate accreditation in 1980. A pivotal moment arrived in September 1996 when it officially became Texas A&M University–Texarkana, solidifying its independence within the esteemed Texas A&M System. A&M-Texarkana further broadened its scope in 2010, transitioning into a full four-year college offering robust graduate programs and relocating to a modern campus near the scenic Bringle Lake Park.
