Initially established to provide comprehensive education, it briefly adopted the name Phillips University in 1909, honoring Bishop Henry Phillips, before officially reverting to Texas College in 1912. Glass Library in 1948, a notable building designed by McKissack & McKissack and recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
