The institution's storied history began in 1965 as the James Connally Technical Institute (JCTI) of Texas A&M University, envisioned to be the nation's most sophisticated technical-vocational institute. A pivotal moment came in 1969 when JCTI separated to become the independent Texas State Technical Institute, marking its autonomous journey in technical education.
