The Barber School

The school's roots trace back to 1891 with the founding of the Palo Alto Preparatory School for Boys by Frank Cramer, a venture influenced by Stanford University president David Starr Jordan. This institution, later known as Manzanita Hall and then the Palo Alto Military Academy, was a boys' day and boarding school that steadily grew its enrollment. The school's modern form emerged through significant mergers, evolving from three distinct schools in 1972 to form Harker Academy, and further transforming into The Harker School in 1993. The Barber School offers a comprehensive educational experience spanning from its lower school, situated on the Bucknall campus, to its middle school located on the Union campus.
