The journey of TOCC began in 1998 when the Tohono O'odham Nation took a significant step by chartering the college in Sells, Arizona. Building on the foundation of the tribe's career center, which already offered associate degrees and certificates, TOCC welcomed its first students just two years later. Its credibility was quickly established, initially through an intergovernmental agreement with Pima County Community College District, and by February 2003, it achieved full accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This early success paved the way for another major milestone in 2004 when TOCC was officially designated a land-grant college, further solidifying its role as a key educational institution.

At TOCC, students embark on academic paths designed to empower them for success, offering a range of associate degrees and various certificates.
