Trine University

Trine University stands as a dynamic and nationally competitive private institution, forged over a century of continuous evolution. From its origins as a regional college, Trine has grown into a multidisciplinary university, committed to delivering engaging and comprehensive education to 2,343 students.

Established in 1884 as "Tri-State Normal College," the institution's name reflected its unique location at the crossroads of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Over the decades, it transformed, first becoming "Tri-State College" in 1906, then "Tri-State University" in 1975. A pivotal moment arrived in 2008 when it was renamed "Trine University," a strategic move to honor significant alumni donors Ralph and Sheri Trine, and to shed its regional identifier in favor of a national brand. This change underscored its ambition to be recognized beyond its tri-state roots, cultivating a reputation as a leading private university on a national stage.

Academically, Trine University boasts a rich heritage in engineering, evidenced by its over 100 years of teaching in the field and the graduation of its first Master of Science in Engineering Technology class in 2005. The university achieved its initial regional accreditation in 1963 and has maintained it robustly, with its Level V accreditation extending until 2026. Further demonstrating its academic strength, the Ketner School of Business received reaffirmation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2019. Beyond academics, Trine offers a vibrant student experience, becoming an NCAA Division III provisional member and joining the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in 2002, alongside expanding its student life offerings.
