Truett McConnell University, nestled in the scenic North Georgia mountains, offers a dynamic educational experience rooted in its Christian mission. The university's journey began with its establishment ceremonies in 1946, opening its doors in September 1947 to an initial class of 55 students. What started as a two-year liberal arts college, first accredited in 1966, expanded its academic offerings dramatically. By 2002, it was approved to offer four-year degrees, rapidly introducing diverse programs from a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Christian Studies to a Bachelor of Science in Education. Today, Truett McConnell University boasts thirteen bachelor's degrees across fields like Business, English, History, Humanities, and the recently approved Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies, alongside flexible online degree options.

After a period of enrollment decline in the early 2000s, Truett McConnell University experienced a remarkable resurgence, seeing its student body grow by 62% from 2008 to 2010, and now serves over 2100 students across residential, commuter, and online programs. This growth has been accompanied by significant infrastructure development, including additions to academic facilities, new residential halls, and a Student Recreation Center. The institution's commitment to providing a supportive and enriching environment is evident in these ongoing expansions, ensuring a vibrant student life as it continues to evolve from college to university in 2016.

In May 2025, a report accused the then-President, Emir Caner, of ignoring complaints of student sexual abuse. Following this, the board of trustees placed President Caner on administrative leave, with John Yarbrough assuming the role of acting president pending a third-party investigation.
