About University of Bridgeport
A private Connecticut university known for unique health sciences and a rich history.
Nestled in the vibrant city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, the University of Bridgeport (UB) stands as a dynamic private institution with a rich legacy. While it was acquired by Goodwin University in 2021, UB proudly retains its unique name, brand, and dedicated board of trustees, continuing its mission to provide exceptional education. It's particularly renowned for distinctive academic offerings, including Connecticut's sole Chinese medicine program, one of the state's two medical laboratory sciences programs, and one of the East Coast's premier chiropractic schools.
UB's journey began in 1927 as the Junior College of Connecticut, addressing a critical need for higher education in Bridgeport, a bustling city that was then one of the few without its own college. Visionary founders E. Everett Cortright, Alfred Fones, and Sumner Simpson laid the groundwork for an institution that quickly grew. By 1947, it transformed into a comprehensive four-year university, acquiring the historic P.T. Barnum estate to expand its beautiful 86-acre campus adjacent to Seaside Park.
Today, the University of Bridgeport serves over 5,000 students across more than 60 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs. As the only university in Bridgeport and one of the largest in Connecticut, UB offers a diverse and engaging student experience. Prospective students and their families will find a supportive community and innovative programs designed to prepare graduates for impactful careers in a wide range of fields.
