University of Holy Cross

The University of Holy Cross (UHC) stands as a private liberal arts college with a rich and transformative history, nestled in the vibrant city of New Orleans. With a student body of approximately 1,120, UHC offers an intimate and supportive learning environment, fostering personal growth and academic excellence within its diverse community. UHC's story began in 1916 as a two-year women's normal school, founded by the Marianites of Holy Cross. Over the decades, it steadily expanded its mission, evolving into a four-year institution by 1938. A significant milestone was its move in 1960 to a 40-acre campus in Algiers, across the river from its original Bywater location, solidifying its presence in a new community. The institution continued to break new ground, becoming co-educational with the admission of men in 1967.

Today, the University of Holy Cross proudly carries its name, adopted in 2016 to reflect its comprehensive offerings and enduring legacy. Despite a challenging period in 2011, which saw a leadership transition and subsequent accreditation probation that was resolved, UHC has emerged stronger, maintaining its dedication to providing a values-based education. It remains committed to preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives, embodying a spirit of resilience and continuous advancement.
