University of Massachusetts Global stands today as a leading private online institution, but its roots stretch back to an innovative spirit born in 1958. Its unique history began when faculty from what was then Chapman College started delivering essential on-base classes to military personnel at locations like Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in California. This groundbreaking approach to education, bringing learning directly to those who served, laid the foundation for its commitment to flexibility and accessibility.

From these humble but impactful beginnings, the institution steadily expanded its educational services. This growth led to the formation of a dedicated Division of Residence Education Centers, which eventually evolved into the College of Lifelong Learning. This continuous adaptation ensured that education remained within reach for a diverse student body, particularly working adults and military families seeking to advance their careers and knowledge.

The evolution continued into the 21st century, marking significant milestones. In 2001, it proudly became Chapman University College, further solidifying its academic standing, and was formally incorporated in 2008. A year later, in 2009, a substantial donation from the Joyce and Saul Brandman Foundation led to its renaming as Brandman University. Today, as University of Massachusetts Global, it continues this legacy, serving approximately 19,000 students with a focus on delivering high-quality, flexible online education designed for the modern learner.
