University of Mount Union

The University of Mount Union stands as a testament to enduring educational principles, initially founded in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn as the Select School. From its inception, Mount Union was envisioned as a revolutionary place where education would be equally accessible to men and women, where the sciences would thrive alongside the humanities, and where diversity in race, color, or sex would pose no barrier. With a history rich in academic innovation, Mount Union quickly evolved, becoming the Mount Union Seminary in 1849 before receiving its charter as Mount Union College in 1856. The institution further expanded its academic footprint in approximately 1911 through a merger with Scio College, integrating new faculty and broadening its educational offerings.
