The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) stands as a vital public medical school, deeply rooted in Fort Worth and dedicated to advancing health professions and biomedical research. Established in 1970 as the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), it proudly holds the distinction of being Texas's first osteopathic medical school. From its humble beginnings on the fifth floor of a hospital, UNTHSC has grown into a comprehensive health science center, continually expanding its reach and impact.

Over the decades, UNTHSC has undergone significant evolution, becoming a part of North Texas State University in 1975 and subsequently being renamed in 1993. This period saw the establishment of key academic units, including the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Public Health, laying the groundwork for its multifaceted educational offerings. The center has consistently been at the forefront of innovation, from opening the DNA Identity Laboratory in 1990 to launching Fort Worth's first Mobile Pediatric Clinic in 2013.

Notably, the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine was ranked the top osteopathic medical school in the country for primary care in 2023.
