The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) boasts a rich and adaptive history, beginning its journey in 1920 as the Northwestern School of Commerce. What started as a focused institution for business education has continuously evolved, demonstrating a century-long commitment to meeting the changing demands of the educational landscape and preparing students for successful careers.

Over the decades, the institution underwent several strategic transformations, reflecting its growth and expanding academic offerings. It became the Northwestern Business College in 1970, relocating to its current Cable Road campus in 1972. Further changes saw it named the Northwestern Business College-Technical Center, then Northwestern College, before officially achieving university status on August 1, 2000, as the University of Northwestern Ohio. This progression underscores UNOH's dedication to providing comprehensive, practical education that combines traditional business acumen with technical skills.

Today, UNOH stands as a vibrant private university, serving 2,606 students and led by President Jeffrey Alan Jarvis. Its forward-thinking approach extends beyond academics, as evidenced by the UNOH Development Corporation's recent acquisition in January 2024 to improve access to the UNOH Event Center.
