The University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (UPJ) stands as a dynamic regional campus of the esteemed University of Pittsburgh, embodying a spirit of 'Veritas et Virtus' (Truth and Virtue). UPJ's journey began with humble roots, tracing back to pre-World War I when the University of Pittsburgh extended continuing education courses to the Johnstown area. This initial spark ignited a more permanent relationship, culminating in the official founding of UPJ on September 24, 1927, as a two-year college. After starting classes in the Johnstown High School building and later moving to the Moxham section, a significant milestone occurred in the early 1960s when dedicated community leaders partnered with the University of Pittsburgh to establish a sprawling new campus in suburban Richland Township, which first opened its doors in 1967.

Since earning degree-granting status from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970, UPJ has experienced remarkable growth. Today, the campus boasts five academic buildings, a modern library, an expanded student union, a state-of-the-art sports and aquatic center, a conference center, a chapel, and a vibrant performing arts center.
