About University of Pittsburgh-Titusville
A historic regional campus fostering growth and specialized learning in Pennsylvania's Oil Creek Valley.
Discover the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, a vital regional campus nestled in Pennsylvania's historic Oil Creek Region. Established in 1963, UPT was founded to meet a crucial need for higher education closer to home, offering students a unique blend of personal attention and access to the broader University of Pittsburgh system. With a proud motto of "Veritas et Virtus" (Truth and Virtue), this institution has consistently adapted to serve its community, providing valuable educational pathways for generations.
Pitt-Titusville's journey began with community vision and a successful fundraising campaign, opening its doors in 1963 with just 75 students in McKinney Hall. From its humble beginnings, with classrooms in repurposed buildings, the campus quickly grew. The 1960s saw the development of dedicated residence halls, enhancing the student experience, and by the 1970s, a dedicated library, Haskell Memorial Library, became a cornerstone of academic life.
The campus continued to evolve, expanding its facilities with the 164-bed Spruce Hall dormitory in the 1980s and the opening of the Barco Center in the 1990s. Academically, UPT pioneered practical, career-focused programs, notably initiating the physical therapist assistant degree program and a two-year nursing program. The 2000s marked a significant step with its first four-year degree program, offered in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, demonstrating a commitment to expanding advanced learning opportunities within the region.
Today, under the unified leadership with Pitt-Bradford, Pitt-Titusville maintains its core mission of providing accessible and high-quality education. With a close-knit community of 135 students, it offers a focused and supportive environment where students can pursue specialized career paths while benefiting from the strength and reputation of the University of Pittsburgh system, all while upholding its commitment to Truth and Virtue.
