The University of Providence, a dynamic institution rooted in a rich history, stands out for its comprehensive academic offerings and far-reaching educational initiatives. Established in 1932 as "Great Falls Junior College for Women," the university has undergone a remarkable transformation. It was initially founded through the collaborative efforts of Catholic Bishop Edwin Vincent O'Hara, the Sisters of Charity of Providence, and the Ursuline Sisters. Evolving from its early days as a women's college, it became coeducational in 1937 and later unified with the Great Falls Normal School, eventually becoming the Great Falls College of Education. Through various name changes—College of Great Falls, University of Great Falls—it finally adopted its current name, University of Providence, in 2017, signifying its continued mission of service and education.

Beyond its main campus, the University of Providence has a long-standing tradition of serving communities through outreach. It maintains resident centers on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and in Lewistown, as well as a continuing education program at Malmstrom Air Force Base. Emphasizing flexibility and reach, UP's Telecom Distance Learning Program serves 31 sites across Montana, southern Alberta, and Wyoming, making quality education accessible to students around the globe.
