The University of Providence (UP) stands as a testament to educational adaptability and outreach, evolving from its humble beginnings to become a dynamic institution dedicated to accessible learning. Known for its strong commitment to community engagement and innovative distance education, UP offers a unique blend of traditional campus programs and expansive remote opportunities for students near and far.

Established in 1932 as the "Great Falls Junior College for Women" by the Catholic Bishop of Great Falls in collaboration with the Sisters of Charity of Providence and the Ursuline Sisters, UP has a rich and evolving history. It embraced coeducation in 1937 and underwent several transformations, including a union with the Great Falls Normal School and subsequent name changes to Great Falls College of Education, College of Great Falls, and University of Great Falls, before adopting its current identity in 2017.

Academically, UP provides a robust foundation with over 20 undergraduate degree programs and several master's options. Its pioneering spirit extends to its extensive outreach efforts, including resident centers on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and in Lewistown, alongside a dedicated continuing education program at Malmstrom Air Force Base. Perhaps most impressively, UP's Telecom Distance Learning Program serves 31 sites across Montana, southern Alberta, and Wyoming, effectively extending its educational reach to students around the world.
