University of Puget Sound, a distinguished private liberal arts college nestled in Tacoma, Washington, has been fostering intellectual curiosity and independent thought since its founding in 1888. The university's journey began as The Puget Sound University, established by the Methodist Episcopal Church. After navigating early financial challenges and multiple relocations, it was "reborn" in 1903 as the University of Puget Sound. A pivotal period under President Edward H. Todd saw the campus move to its picturesque current location in 1924, establishing the distinctive architectural style seen today. Decades of growth ensued, culminating in a significant strategic shift in 1980 when the institution divested from the Methodist Church, cementing its independent liberal arts identity and sharpening its focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education.
