The University of Redlands, initially rooted in American Baptist traditions, has evolved into a dynamic, secular institution known for its commitment to accessible and high-quality education. Founded officially with a groundbreaking in 1909, the university opened its physical doors in 1910, starting with just 39 students. Despite early financial hardships, including a devastating cold wave that impacted the local economy, the dedicated faculty and a supportive Baptist community rallied to ensure its survival and growth. By the late 1920s, the university had expanded significantly, boasting a robust endowment and a developing alumni base, firmly establishing its presence and academic ambition.

Academically, the University of Redlands excels in catering to diverse student populations, particularly working adults. Its School of Business, a pioneer in off-site learning, offers flexible undergraduate and graduate programs across multiple regional campuses. The School of Education, the oldest graduate division, is dedicated to preparing educators and leaders through master's degrees and credentials, notably offering the university's only doctoral program focused on educational justice. The Graduate School of Theology, established through a 2019 merger, provides a multi-faith and interdisciplinary approach to theological studies, further broadening the university's academic reach and impact.
