The University of Saint Francis (USF) in Fort Wayne stands as a vibrant private university, deeply rooted in a rich history of educational service. What began as a dedicated teacher training school has blossomed into a comprehensive institution renowned for its strong academic programs and an engaging campus life, attracting a diverse body of nearly 2,000 students.

USF's journey commenced in 1890 in Lafayette, Indiana, founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration. Initially known as Saint Francis Normal School, it was established to elevate the training of teachers within their congregation. This foundational commitment to education steadily propelled its growth, evolving into a junior college, then a four-year institution, and officially becoming Saint Francis College in 1940. A pivotal moment arrived in 1944 when the college relocated to its present Fort Wayne campus, marking the dawn of a significant era of expansion.

The university's academic and student life experienced remarkable growth, particularly from the 1960s onward. The establishment of a graduate school in 1960 broadened its academic horizons, while the 1990s saw a transformative period.
