The University of Southern Mississippi, affectionately known as Southern Miss or USM, is a vibrant public research institution rooted in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with a significant presence across the Gulf Coast. USM's rich history began on March 30, 1910, as Mississippi Normal College, dedicated to training teachers.
