The University of West Florida (UWF) stands as a vibrant public institution, guided by its inspiring motto, "No Limit," and symbolized by the Chambered Nautilus, representing continuous growth and achievement. Founded in 1963 by the Florida Legislature, UWF initially broke ground as an innovative upper-level institution. Its first president, Harold Crosby, quickly set the stage for its future, with the first students enrolling in 1967. The university rapidly matured, earning accreditation for its undergraduate programs and establishing its first master's degree programs by 1969, solidifying its place as the sixth institution in the State University System of Florida.
