University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Flex

The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) stands as a prominent public urban research institution, serving as the largest university in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and one of only two doctorate-granting research universities within the esteemed University of Wisconsin System. Distinguished by its classification as an "R1: Doctoral University – Very high research activity," UWM is at the forefront of discovery and innovation, attracting a diverse student body that, as of 2023, numbered nearly 23,000.

The university's rich history dates back to 1885, when it first opened its doors as the Wisconsin State Normal School in downtown Milwaukee. Over the decades, it evolved through various incarnations—including Milwaukee State Teachers College and Wisconsin State College–Milwaukee—before officially being established as the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1956, marking its pivotal role in higher education.
