The University of Wisconsin-Superior stands as a proud and integral part of the esteemed University of Wisconsin System, carrying a rich legacy deeply rooted in shaping the educational landscape of Wisconsin. Established in 1893 as "Superior Normal School," the university quickly earned a reputation for pioneering educational initiatives. It made history in 1909 by becoming Wisconsin's first normal school to offer a full-scale training program for kindergarten teachers. Its innovative spirit continued, as it was also the first in the state to introduce a four-year program specifically for high school teachers in 1923. Over the decades, the institution expanded its academic reach, authorized to grant bachelor's degrees in education by 1926 and later, graduate degrees by 1947.
