University of Wisconsin-Superior

Nestled within the esteemed University of Wisconsin System, the University of Wisconsin-Superior boasts a rich history deeply rooted in educational innovation. Founded in 1893 as the Superior Normal School, its initial mission was to rigorously train the next generation of teachers for Wisconsin. It quickly distinguished itself by becoming the state's first normal school to offer groundbreaking full-scale training for kindergarten educators in 1909, and later, the first to provide a four-year program for high school teachers in 1923.

This pioneering spirit laid the groundwork for its evolution into a comprehensive institution. Authorized to grant bachelor's degrees in education by 1926, the school embraced new identities, transitioning from Superior State Teachers College to Wisconsin State College–Superior, reflecting its expanding academic scope beyond teacher preparation. By 1964, it was recognized as Wisconsin State University–Superior, a testament to its growing influence and diverse offerings.

In 1971, the university proudly joined the prestigious University of Wisconsin System, solidifying its place as a key contributor to higher education in the state. Today, UW-Superior continues its legacy of providing a valuable academic experience, offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
