University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater stands as a vibrant public university, serving over 11,000 students with a legacy deeply rooted in educational innovation and student empowerment. What began as a pivotal institution for teacher training has evolved into a comprehensive academic powerhouse, renowned for its commitment to developing well-rounded citizens and future leaders.

Founded in 1868 as the Whitewater Normal School, the institution quickly made its mark by graduating its first class of teachers in 1870. Its historical journey reflects a continuous commitment to educational advancement, transitioning to Whitewater Teachers College in 1927 with the authority to grant baccalaureate degrees. This growth continued in 1951 with the incorporation of liberal arts programs, leading to its designation as Wisconsin State College–Whitewater, and later a full-fledged Wisconsin State University in 1964. This progression culminated in 1971 when it proudly joined the esteemed University of Wisconsin System, solidifying its identity as the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.

Beyond its academic evolution, UW-Whitewater fostered a unique culture of student responsibility and character building. A captivating tradition known as 'Students' Day' allowed faculty to be entirely absent, tasking students with electing their own leaders and managing the day's operations.
