The university's rich history traces back to 1941, originating as the Central Utah Vocational School. Over the decades, it underwent several transformations, reflecting its expanding mission. From Utah Technical College in Provo, which first granted associate degrees, to Utah Valley Community College, and then Utah Valley State College, which introduced four-year degrees, UVU continually evolved. Its move to a modern campus in Orem in 1977 marked a significant step in its journey, culminating in its elevation to university status in 2008, enabling it to offer master's degrees.

Today, UVU is renowned for its strong emphasis on both two-year and four-year degree programs, ensuring students have practical, career-focused options alongside traditional academic pathways.
