Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) stands as a distinctive hub for graduate-level artistic exploration, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creative professionals. VCFA boasts a rich and transformative history stretching back to 1834 with the establishment of Newbury Seminary in Vermont. Over nearly two centuries, the institution evolved through various forms—from a seminary to a junior college, and later as part of Norwich University and Union Institute & University. This journey culminated in 2008 when its vibrant MFA programs and physical campus separated to form the independent Vermont College of Fine Arts, solidifying its commitment to specialized arts education.

Academically, VCFA is defined by its rigorous, individualized MFA programs designed to foster critical thinking, creative practice, and professional growth. A pivotal aspect of the student experience is its innovative residency model. After years of hosting residencies at various locations, including Colorado College and Susquehanna University, VCFA embarked on a groundbreaking affiliation with the prestigious California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in April 2024. Beginning in January 2025, students will benefit from immersive residencies held on the CalArts campus in the vibrant Los Angeles metro, offering unparalleled access to a renowned artistic community and resources.
