Vernon College

The college's journey began in 1970 when Wilbarger County voters decisively elected to establish what was then known as Vernon Regional Junior College. Welcoming its inaugural class of 608 students in 1972, the institution has since undergone significant expansion. This growth includes the establishment of numerous learning centers such as the Sheppard Learning Center, VRJC Technical Center, Career Development Center in Wichita Falls, and additional centers in Seymour, Burkburnett, and Iowa Park. This strategic expansion culminated in an official name change to Vernon College in 2001, reflecting its enduring commitment to comprehensive educational outreach.

Academically, Vernon College is particularly noted for its career-focused programs that directly address regional workforce demands. Highlights include the Department of Vocational Nursing in Wichita Falls, providing essential training for vital healthcare roles, and the VRJC Technical Center in Wichita Falls, a hub for hands-on technical skills development.
