Wake Technical Community College

Wake Technical Community College stands as a cornerstone of education in North Carolina, empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. The institution's rich history began in 1958 with its chartering as the Wake County Industrial Education Center. Just five years later, on October 7, 1963, its doors officially opened to an inaugural class of 304 students. From its inception, Wake Tech was committed to comprehensive education, initially offering 34 curriculum study programs and an impressive 270 industrial training programs to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Over the decades, the college underwent several name changes, reflecting its growth and expanding mission: from W. W. Holding Technical Institute (1970-1973) to Wake Technical Institute (1974-1979) and Wake Technical College (1980-1988). Today, known as Wake Technical Community College, it continues to thrive across multiple campuses throughout Wake County. With accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Wake Tech is a trusted institution where students gain the skills and knowledge necessary for both immediate career entry and seamless transfer to four-year universities.
