Waldorf University

Waldorf University's story begins with a truly unique origin, born from "The Great Hotel War of Forest City" in 1903. What started as a vacant hotel became the unexpected home for Waldorf College, founded by Rev. C.S. Salveson as a Christian institution. It was initially an academy and business college, not just a preparatory program for future pastors, reflecting a deep-seated belief that church-sponsored education was vital for societal success. This commitment to values and practical learning has been a cornerstone of Waldorf's identity since its earliest days.

Over the decades, Waldorf has continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of its students. By 1920, its curriculum had broadened significantly, embracing a robust liberal arts emphasis that remains central to its academic offerings today. Waldorf University also boasts a fascinating institutional journey. After being accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1994, it navigated significant changes in ownership, moving from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to a for-profit model in 2010, and officially becoming Waldorf University in 2016. However, in a notable return to its roots, ownership transferred back to the Waldorf Lutheran College Foundation in 2022, and the university is actively returning to non-profit status, a testament to its enduring mission and community support.
