Waldorf University, established in 1903, boasts a truly unique origin story, famously emerging from "The Great Hotel War of Forest City." This unconventional beginning provided the opportunity for Rev. C.S. Salveson to create a Christian college. Initially an academy and business college, Waldorf quickly established a vision: to provide church-sponsored education as essential for success in society. Today, Waldorf continues this legacy, offering a vibrant learning environment rooted in its historical commitment to accessible, impactful education.

Over a century of evolution has shaped Waldorf's academic landscape. Since 1920, the curriculum has progressively emphasized the liberal arts, a core focus that continues to define its educational approach. As of 2022, ownership transferred to the Waldorf Lutheran College Foundation, initiating the process of returning to non-profit status.
